Above, our founder and developer, Professor Bai Rong, with Tai
Chi Rhythmball™ students, and, on the right, students who use wheelchairs playing
Tai Chi Rhythmball™, the Tai Chi Chuan based exercise that was specifically
developed for those with physical disabilities.
In
1991, Professor Bai Rong, of Shanxi University’s physical training department
and a highly successful boxing trainer with a background in Tai Chi Chuan,
developed the exercise and exercise equipment. The exercise is now played by
hundreds of thousands of all ages in China. This Tai Chi exercise is also very
popular in Germany, The Netherlands, Austria and Japan.
Tai Chi Rhythmball™ is our North American
brand, and the equipment and viceos originated from "JiuJiuXing" Tai Chi Rouli
Ball by the Beijing Chaoyang District Maizidan Fuli Plastic Products Factory.
We are the sole distributor of this Tai Chi exercise and the equipment in
North America.
The exercise, based on Tai Chi Chuan was
initially developed to improve the physical condition of wheelchair users. The exercise equipment is manufactured in a sheltered workshop in
China where approximately 60% of the employees have a physical disability. Tai Chi
Rhythmball™ donates a percentage of each sale to improve employee social
services and create more job opportunities for the factory employees.
The Rhythmball™ Tai Chi exercise
is particularly helpful to those who are physically challenged as well as
those who suffer from the symptoms of arthritis. Please see our section, Tai
Chi Rhythmball ™ as an Arthritis Exercise, for additional information
regarding this major health benefit.
In individual play, the goal is to guide a
ball by moving a racket in circular movements while keeping the ball from
falling to the ground. Our exercise equipment is specially made, and promotes
exercise movements typical of Tai Chi Chuan.
When two or more people play
together, the idea is to gently receive the ball before passing it on to the
next player. It can also be played more competitively, outside or inside and
with or without a court or a net. It is a whole-body workout, and it's
wonderful to use for toning all major muscle groups.
In addition to preserving all the benefits of
Tai Chi, Rhythmball™ presents additional challenge, athleticism, feedback,
teamwork and FUN. It burns as many calories as surfing and almost as many as
downhill skiing. It’s entertaining to watch and typically draws appreciative
and curious spectators. Be prepared to be asked about the exercise and where
you obtained the exercise equipment and instruction.
